If you’re a Garland Power & Light customer, there’s money on the table.

The City of Garland’s EnergySaver Program offers utility bill credits of $600 to $900 when you upgrade to a qualifying high-efficiency air conditioning or heat pump system. It’s real money — applied directly to your GPL account — and Expedition Heating & Air handles everything from installation to permits to making sure your system qualifies.

How Much Can You Save?

The credit amount depends on the type of system and its efficiency rating:

Central Air Conditioning

Efficiency RatingBill Credit
16.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 15.3 SEER2)$600 per unit
17.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 16.2 SEER2)$700 per unit
18.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 17.2 SEER2)$800 per unit

Heat Pumps

Efficiency RatingBill Credit
16.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 15.3 SEER2)$700 per unit
17.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 16.2 SEER2)$800 per unit
18.0 SEER / 12.0 EER (or 17.2 SEER2)$900 per unit

These credits are on top of our flexible financing options — so you can combine a lower monthly payment with hundreds back on your utility bill.

What’s Required to Qualify?

The program has a few requirements, and the good news is that Expedition already meets all of them as part of how we do business:

  • Total system changeout — The indoor and outdoor components must both be replaced. We don’t do piecemeal installs anyway — a matched system is the only way to guarantee performance and efficiency.
  • Licensed contractor — Expedition Heating & Air is a fully licensed Texas HVAC contractor (TACLB112648E). Required.
  • City of Garland mechanical permit — We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and make sure you get your green tag. You don’t have to worry about it.
  • AHRI-certified efficiency ratings — The system’s efficiency has to be verified through AHRI (the industry’s official rating database). We confirm this before we order equipment — no guesswork, no rounding.
  • GPL customer in the service area — You need to be a current Garland Power & Light customer with service at the installation address.

Additional Rebates: Weatherization & Duct Work

GPL’s EnergySaver Program also offers bill credits for other energy efficiency upgrades, including:

  • Duct replacement
  • Duct sealing (with before & after leakage testing)
  • Ceiling insulation (must reach R-30 or higher)
  • ENERGY STAR® windows and doors
  • Window solar screens or film
  • Weatherization (weather-stripping, caulking, sealing penetrations — with before & after blower door testing)

If you’re already replacing your system, it’s worth asking us about duct work and sealing while everything is open and accessible.

How the Process Works with Expedition

  1. Schedule your estimate — We’ll assess your home, recommend the right system, and confirm which rebate tier your equipment qualifies for.
  2. We handle the install and permits — Professional installation with a city permit pulled and inspected. No shortcuts.
  3. We help you file the rebate — You’ll need the contractor invoice, AHRI rating sheet, permit number, and signed application. We provide the documentation you need to submit to GPL.
  4. GPL credits your account — The credit is applied directly to your utility bill, typically within 2–8 weeks after GPL receives your completed application.

⚠ Important: This Program Has a Deadline

The EnergySaver Program ends September 30, 2026 — or when funding runs out, whichever comes first. Credits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’ve been thinking about replacing an aging system, now is the time to lock it in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Garland Power & Light AC rebate?

GPL offers utility bill credits ranging from $600 to $900 per unit depending on the type of system (air conditioner vs. heat pump) and the efficiency rating. Higher-efficiency systems receive larger credits. For example, a standard 16 SEER central AC qualifies for $600, while an 18 SEER heat pump qualifies for $900.

Do I qualify for the GPL EnergySaver rebate?

To qualify, you need to be a current Garland Power & Light customer with electric service at the address where the equipment is being installed. The program is available for existing homes and businesses in the GPL service area. New construction does not qualify.

Can I get a rebate if I only replace my outdoor unit?

No. The program requires a total system changeout — both the outdoor condensing unit and the indoor coil (and air handler, if applicable) must be replaced. This is actually better for you, because a matched system delivers the efficiency ratings the manufacturer designed for. A mismatched system often underperforms.

Does my contractor need to be licensed?

Yes. The installation must be completed by a licensed air conditioning contractor, and a City of Garland mechanical permit is required. Expedition Heating & Air holds Texas HVAC license TACLB112648E and pulls permits on every install.

How do I apply for the rebate after installation?

You’ll need to submit four items to GPL: a copy of the contractor invoice showing equipment model and serial numbers, the AHRI rating sheet confirming efficiency ratings, your City of Garland mechanical permit number, and a completed and signed EnergySaver Program application. Expedition provides the invoice and AHRI documentation — you just need to submit the packet to GPL by mail or in person at 217 N. Fifth Street, Garland, TX 75040.

How long does it take to receive the credit?

GPL typically applies the credit to your utility account within 2 to 8 weeks after receiving your completed application and supporting documents.

Can I combine this rebate with financing?

Absolutely. The GPL bill credit is separate from how you pay for the system. You can take advantage of our financing options and still receive the full rebate credit on your utility bill.

Is the rebate program still available?

The current EnergySaver Program runs through September 30, 2026, but credits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and the program ends when funding is depleted. GPL recommends calling their Energy Advisor at (972) 205-2929 to confirm availability before purchasing equipment. We also verify program status before every qualifying install.

Does Expedition Heating & Air work outside of Garland?

Yes — we serve the entire Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. However, the GPL EnergySaver rebate is only available to Garland Power & Light customers. If you’re served by a different utility, ask us about other manufacturer rebates and incentives that may be available to you.
