HVAC Health Check

A Real Assessment of Your System’s Condition | $149

You deserve to know what condition your HVAC system is actually in.

Not a guess. Not “looks good.” A measured, documented assessment from a salaried technician who has nothing to gain by finding problems — and nothing to gain by missing them.

The Expedition HVAC Health Check is $149 flat. No upsells baked in. No commission-driven recommendations. Just an honest picture of where your system stands.

This Is Not a Tune-Up

A tune-up is a maintenance visit. Filter check, maybe a coil rinse, a visual once-over. It has its place — but it doesn’t tell you what condition your system is actually in.

The Health Check is a systematic assessment. We measure, test, and document. You get a written condition report when we’re done — not a verbal summary on the way out the door.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your system is running efficiently, whether something is wearing out, or whether a repair is actually worth it — this is how you get that answer.

What’s Included — Every Visit

Capacitor Load Testing

We measure actual microfarad output against rated specs. A weak capacitor makes your compressor work harder on every single cycle and is the leading cause of summer breakdowns in DFW. Visual inspection alone doesn’t catch this — measurement does.

Contactor Condition Assessment

We inspect contact points for pitting, carbon buildup, and arcing damage. DFW systems cycle hundreds of times per day in summer. A worn contactor is a compressor failure waiting to happen.

Evaporator Coil Inspection

We inspect the indoor coil for dust buildup, microbial growth, and airflow restriction. A dirty evaporator coil reduces efficiency, causes freeze-ups, and degrades your indoor air quality.

Condenser Coil Inspection

We inspect the outdoor coil for debris loading, fin damage, and airflow restriction. Cottonwood, pollen, and DFW dust accumulate fast. A choked condenser coil drives up your electric bill every month it goes unaddressed.

Refrigerant Charge Verification

We verify refrigerant levels are within manufacturer spec. Systems don’t consume refrigerant — if it’s low, there’s a leak. We’ll find it here, not after compressor damage has already occurred.

Condensate Drain Inspection

We inspect the drain line, drain pan, and float switch for buildup, blockage, and algae growth. A backed-up drain line causes water damage, system shutdowns, and mold conditions. In Texas humidity, drain maintenance is not optional.

Electrical Connection Review

We check all accessible electrical connections for tightness, corrosion, and heat damage. Loose connections create resistance, resistance creates heat, and heat destroys components over time.

Blower Performance Check

We assess blower wheel condition and motor operation. A dirty or failing blower is often misdiagnosed as a refrigerant or compressor issue. We check the actual source.

Static Pressure Measurement

We measure system static pressure against design specs. High static pressure is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of comfort problems and premature system failure in DFW homes.

Thermostat Calibration Verification

We verify your thermostat is reading accurately and communicating correctly with the system. An out-of-calibration thermostat affects comfort and runtime without any obvious symptoms.

Efficiency Benchmark (Systems 10+ Years)

For systems in the 10-year-and-older range, we benchmark actual performance against rated efficiency specs. If your system is running at 65% of its original efficiency, that’s money leaving your account every month — and information you should have.

What You Get When We’re Done

A written condition report covering every item above. Green means it’s within spec. Yellow means it’s worth monitoring. Red means it needs attention — with an honest explanation of what that means and what it would cost to address.

No pressure. No manufactured urgency. If your system is in good shape, we’ll tell you. If something needs work, you’ll have the information to make a smart decision on your timeline.

$149 Flat

That covers the full assessment, all testing, and your written condition report. Labor for any repairs recommended as a result of the Health Check is quoted separately and only performed with your approval.

No surprise charges. No “while we’re in there” add-ons without your sign-off.

Who This Is For

The Health Check is especially valuable if:

  • Your system is 5+ years old and has never had a real assessment
  • You’ve moved into a home and don’t know the service history of the system
  • You’re trying to decide whether to repair or replace
  • Your energy bills have been creeping up without explanation
  • You’re planning a home sale or purchase and want documentation of system condition
  • You just want to know — because a $5,000 breakdown in August shouldn’t be a surprise

Why Expedition

Our technicians are salaried. There’s no flat rate bonus for finding problems, no commission on parts, no pressure to sell you something on every visit. When we tell you your system is in good shape, it’s because it is. When we tell you something needs attention, it’s because it does.

We’re a licensed HVAC contractor serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area. We built this assessment because we kept seeing homeowners get blindsided by failures that should have been caught years earlier — and because we think you deserve better guidance than “get a tune-up once a year.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Health Check take?

Approximately 60–90 minutes depending on system age and condition. We don’t rush it.

Will you try to sell me something during the visit?

Our technicians are salaried — there’s no commission on parts or repairs. You’ll get honest findings and honest recommendations. Any repair work is quoted separately and only done with your explicit approval.

Is this the same as an annual tune-up?

No. A tune-up is a maintenance visit. The Health Check is a documented system assessment with measurement-based testing and a written condition report. If you’re due for maintenance, we can discuss that as a separate service — but the Health Check stands on its own.

What happens if you find something wrong?

You’ll see it in your written report with a clear explanation of what it means and what it would cost to address. Nothing gets done without your approval. You’re welcome to take the report, think it over, get a second opinion, or schedule the repair for a later date.

Do you service all HVAC brands?

Yes. The Health Check covers any residential HVAC system regardless of brand or age.

Can this be applied toward a repair if something needs work?
